It’s that time of the year. Chique Romania turns 5 now and I took a time to look back a little bit: my very beginnings, where I am now. Life is changing and so do everything in it. How much our beliefs, needs, passions changed over the years? I’m sure they did for everyone.

Este acea perioada a anului. Chique Romania face 5 ani si mi-am luat putin timp pentru introspectie: cum am inceput, unde sunt acum. Viata se schimba si tot ce face parte din ea, se schimba. Cat de mult s-au schimbat credintele, nevoile, pasiunile in ani? Sunt sigura ca s-au schimbat pentru toti.
The beginnings / Începuturi
One day I was walking to the University when a foreigner stopped me. He wanted to know a hostel and I’ve realized that I didn’t know the area that much even though I was walking by almost every day for five years. What could’ve I say? I was eating sandwiches from a small shop, I was drinking beer at Argentin and lived in Drumul Taberei (neighbourhood).
Some other day, a woman this time, wanted to know (in the same area) what she can visit. I’ve started to scratch my memory and I told her she must see Stavropoleos Monastery and CEC building and go to Carul cu Bere for at least the interior design. And… to watch the buildings… because they are nice and historical. That was it: the moment I’ve decided to really live in Bucharest and start a blog for my little discoverings. It was five years ago and Romania didn’t look so good in the eyes of no one and I was already travelling abroad and I could realize that it’s not bad at all in Romania and it is beautiful. I was so frustrated!

Într-o zi mergeam pe Lipscani spre facultate și m-a oprit un străin. Voia să știe un motel și mi-am dat seama cât de puțin știam zona deși o străbăteam deja de 5 ani. Ce să-i spun? Mâncam sandvișuri de la colț, beam bere la Argentin și locuiam în Drumul Taberei.
Într-o altă zi, o tipă de data asta, voia să știe (în aceeași zonă) ce era de văzut. M-am scărpinat puțin în cap și i-am spus că trebuie să vadă Stavropoleos și CEC-ul și să meargă la Carul cu bere măcar pentru interior. Și… să se uite la clădiri… că sunt mișto și istorice. Ăla a fost și momentul când am decis că trebuie să chiar locuiesc aici și să fac și un blog despre micile mele descoperiri. Era acum cinci ani și România nu arăta așa de bine nici la tv, nici în online. Lumea o vorbea de rău și eu, care ieșisem deja și pe afară, eram frustrată tare că aici chiar e bine și frumos.
The Very Beginning / Si mai de la inceput
I often say about myself that I was born on the road. I didn’t live in the city I was born and I’m not staying now in the city I used to live for 19 years.
I believe we all have our „whys” for doing what we’re doing. For me, travelling was in my DNA. I was travelling in the country since I can remember and I lived with the postcards brought by my dad from his travels around the world. I used to spend hours looking at them and inventing stories.
When I was 10 or so I received my first camera on film and I carried it everywhere. I wasn’t into developing and didn’t have a darkroom. I enjoyed the activity of catching moments. For the results, I was impatiently waiting for the photos at the studio.

Spun adesea despre mine că m-am născut pe drum. Nu am trăit în orașul în care m-am născut și nici acum nu locuiesc în orașul în care am trăit 19 ani.
Cred că fiecare avem motivele noastre pentru care facem ceea ce facem. Eu am făcut drumuri prin țară încă de mică și am trăit cu vederile aduse de tatăl meu din voiaje. Mă uitam la ele și inventam povești.
Când aveam 10-11 ani am avut și primul aparat pe film de care am devenit nedespărțită. Nu am fost neapărat o împătimită cu developatul, nu aveam acasa studio. Îmi plăcea activitatea în sine de a surprinde momente. În rest, așteptam cu nerăbdare pozele de la studio.
My Chique Romania
My Romania is beautiful and in a constant change. “Changes” were also a significant part of my DNA. This blog grew up with me and I shared here the most beautiful things I saw and lived.
Now, after five years, Chique Romania it’s created by a 30 years old woman and, even though some interest might have changed, I keep discovering and learn with the same curiosity. I invite you to stay with me in my expedition for finding more chique stuff.

România mea este frumoasă și în continuă schimbare. Schimbarea a rimat tot timpul cu mine.
Și blogul a crescut o dată cu mine și am împărtășit aici tot ce am văzut și experimentat mai frumos.
Acum, dupa cinci ani, Chique Romania este creat de o femeie de 30 de ani și chiar dacă interesele s-au mai schimbat între timp, descopăr și învăț cu aceeași curiozitate. Vă invit să rămâneți cu mine în această căutare a lucrulor chique.
Mulțam din suflet celor care au susținut acest proiect încă de la început! U’re chique af.
