Family Road Trip – Vatra Dornei

Vatra Dornei

I have finally arrived home. It’s been two months since I started wandering around.

I think this is a great moment to stay home for a while and to recall the latest events, being autumn already.

My summer experiences may inspire you during autumn or even winter. Those who followed me on Instagram saw all the marvels I’ve seen in real time.

I want to travel back in time a little, in the first days of my adventure with my folks and make a small review for „Second impressions”.

We made a little morning routine by drinking our coffee in the city center and afterwards decide how our schedule would be like during the day. The walking path is as much as you can see in the picture: few terraces, few stores, few people. I was quite surprised to find the city that empty in the middle of summer season.

We started to search for information and some activities and we discovered that there are a lots of things to: from SPA treatments, traditional areas (that you have to discover step by step and inch by inch because they are indeed beautiful and gave me lot of inner joy), pilgrimage places, to equestrian tourism, river rafting and even flying with the helicopter.

Of course, we marked just some of them and I strongly believe that this kind of places deserve better promotion. We struggled a little to find information, we couldn’t find all the places we were searching for and some were closed (and I’m sure that it was because of the lack of tourists).

What we did in the city center: drink coffee at Living Room (I loved both the coffee and the tea), we ate ice-cream and pizza at Les Amis terrace, we played pool at Club OK.

Another fun thing to do that challenged especially my mom, because she’s so afraid of heights (and she resisted bravely), was the ride with the chairlift on Dealul Negru (Black Hill). In those 20 minutes I could admire the view and fill my lungs with fresh air.

Up there I couldn’t resist the temptation to ride a horsie. I was yearning since the Edenland experience (you can read it here). There are no words to describe how unstable I could feel in the first seconds. I soon stared to regret the decision and began thinking that maybe I should have asked for a shorter ride (me, who was thinking about a whole day horse trip). It didn’t happen this summer but maybe next year. Till then, I hope to find a place to practice (to my sarcastic friends, who know that I didn’t practice either the ride on the bike, I want to tell them to show some support).

On our way back we could see the storm clouds gathering above us. I we stood there a little longer, there was a possibility of not being able to take the chairlift back.

But, we had time to stroll a little into the park, extending our day in the nature. This park is actually a dendrology reservation that houses a lot of squirrels. I understood that they respond by the name „Mariana” but knocking two nuts against each other to make noise was more efficient. I found o group that succeeded in luring the squirrels very close to them. I just “hunted” them with my camera and I don’t know what exactly attracted them but they came very close to my lens.

On the evening, exactly when I arrived in my room, it started to rain. I let the windows wide open, I laid on the bed, I listened to the rain drops and I filled my lungs with fresh, wet air.
