Solo getaway to Câmpina and Doftana Valley, Romania – an anxiety journal

Hey, guys!

I told you in the first article, this year, that I want to challenge myself to travel alone (abroad). Well, it wasn’t an actual “travel” but it was a short getaway, a solo road trip.

I didn’t want to get too far and, honestly, I actually couldn’t, because I’ve been procrastinating a lot. How much anxiety can one put into a beautiful trip? Ummmm… it seems a lot. This was supposed to be a Sunday getaway just to “test the waters” but I was so close to staying home. So, I woke up at 8:30 AM and I’ve finally left the house at 12:20 AM. Haha! But I did iiittt. Once I got in the car things were starting to move ahead.

Hey!

I’ve arrived in Câmpina just in time for the afternoon coffee (I had brunch at home). Câmpina is a beautiful city not far from Bucharest. I believe it took me 1 hour and a half, in total. I stopped directly at InstaCafe and then I get in the car to continue my road trip with Doftana Valley. I’ve spent an entire hour at the café and talked to the people working there. It was a nice feeling. The anxiety makes me, often, a little bit strange and I chose not to talk a lot. And, although I’m aware I’m acting weird, I hate the feeling that people think that about me. Anxiety can really f*#k up your social life, if you know what I mean. But I did well this day.

On my way to Paltinu Lake (it’s a lake on the Doftana Valley), I think I ended up in the centre of Câmpina city. I’m not sure, though, but I took a quick stroll and before continuing my trip. I’d like to return here because I couldn’t enjoy the city enough. And, I must say, the anxiety of walking around alone was a little bit too much for this day. But Câmpina city was so quiet and calm. No loud noises. Charming!

I was hoping to take some photos from Paltinu dam but the access was restricted. Although I’m afraid of heights, I like to see that big dams. Do you?

The next few hours I was just driving along the river and stop from time to time to smell the fresh air and take some pictures. At some point, I felt distracted by the music so I stopped it. What a nice feeling. I felt like I was reconnecting with myself (Having anxiety means living a lot of time „suspended”). The last stop was at a parking and camping place from where you could admire the view over the lake.

Următoarele ore le-am petrecut conducând de-a lungul râului Doftana.

I almost made a new friend. I wanted to share my sandwich with him but he had other plans. I kept walking around until I saw two more dogs and I didn’t know if they’ll be as friendly as the first one so I came back to the car.

By this time, the sun started to set. It was the time to turn back home. I believe you can do more things if you’re staying here a whole weekend or, at least wake up early in the morning. For me, was a great challenge and I’m happy I did this.

I hope you enjoyed my little road trip itinerary and don’t forget to follow my social media account too. I share beautiful places almost every day.

Happy travels!
