Ahem! Let’s talk about brunch, shall we? When I travel somewhere, on my first things I search for is where should I drink my coffee and take my brunch (or breakfast whatsoever). Today I’m going to show you four of my go-to “bruncheries” in Bucharest, and I’ll tell you why should you choose them.

Atențiune! Să vorbim puțin de brunch, ce zici? Când călătoresc undeva, printre primele lucruri pe care le caut sunt: un loc unde să-mi beau cafeaua și unde să iau brunch-ul (sau micul dejun, după caz). Azi o să-ți arăt topul meu personal al “brunch-eriilor” din București și o să-ți spun de ce să le alegi tocmai pe ele.
Atelierul de tarte (nt. Tart Studio)
I’ve heard about their tarts but didn’t actually knew they have such a nice place and a such a wonderful brunch (they open at 10 AM) selection. We made a reservation because it’s a small place and you don’t know when it’s going to be a crowded day. The decor is charming and cosy and instagrammable, by the way (if you’re interested in that). I chose a Shakshuka and, I must tell you, it’s my new fav thing for breakfast/brunch. You can, of course, choose from a variety of egg-based meals or even start your day with one of the amazing tarts (I tried some with Olguța and they’re delish) though, for me, when I want a Shakshuka-brunch, this is the place. Auzisem de tartele lor dar nu știam că au un local atât de frumos și un meniu de brunch (deschid la 10 AM) atât de mișto. Decorul este încântător și atmosfera caldă și, apropos, Instagram-abilă (dacă ești interesat/ă de așa ceva). Am ales Shakshuka și, trebuie să-ți spun, este noua mea preferință pentru mic dejun/brunch. Poți, desigur, să alegi dintr-o varietate mare de feluri de ouă sau chiar să începi ziua cu una din delicioasele tarte (am încercat câteva cu Olguța și au fost bestiale) deși, pentru mine, când vreau Shakshuka, ăsta este locul. Mii de mulțumiri prietenei mele, Olguța, pentru pontul astă super!

Crocant (nt. Crispy)
This is my latest “finding”, though it’s actually my friend’s, Sandra, finding and thanks to her, I celebrated my name day there and we both tried this place for the first time. Long story short, we didn’t know what to expect but we are kinda adventurous with trying new things and, I must tell you, I didn’t felt this good in a place in a long time. We actually met and shook hands with the people working there and they were very nice and cheerful at that early hour in a practically “free” day (restaurants and shops are open on some holidays, here in Romania).

Asta este ultima mea descoperire, care este de fapt descoperirea prietenei mele, Sandra, și datorită ei mi-am sărbătorit ziua numelui aici și, în același timp, am încercat amândouă locul ăsta pentru prima dată. Mai pe scurt, nu am știut la ce să ne așteptăm dar cu spirit de aventură în a încerca lucruri noi, am ajuns aici și, sincer îți spun, demult nu m-am mai simțit atât de bine undeva. Chiar am făcut cunoștință cu staff-ul care a fost extrem de draguț și vesel la ora aia din dimineață, într-o zi “liberă” (restaurantele și magazinele sunt deschise în unele zile de sărbătoare).
But let’s get back to food: we ordered a brioche with (can you guess?) EGGS and it was really good. I have a thing for eggs. It was a recommendation and, oh, how good it was! Although it was a nourishing meal, we couldn’t help to try the desserts. They make everything there, every day, and the sweets change from season to season. Now, because it’s winter, they have these heavy cakes, lots of chocolate etc.
If you want a cheerful brunch, in a friendly atmosphere, with delish brunch (and not only) choices, this is the place.

Dar să ne întoarcem la mâncare: am comandat ceva cu brioșe cu (oare ghicești?) OUĂ și a fost foarte bun. Am o “chestie” pentru ouă (pasiune poate e cam mult, dar pe acolo). A fost recomandare și, doamne, bun a mai fost! Deși a fost consistenta mâncarea nu ne-am putut abține să nu luăm și desert. Ei fac acolo tot, în fiecare zi, și deserturile se schimbă în funcție de sezon. Acum, pentru ca este iarna, aveau niște torturi mai sățioase, ciocolată multa etc.
Dacă vrei un brunch vesel, într-o atmosferă prietenoasă, cu mâncăruri delicioase, ăsta este locul.

Rue du Pain
There is history here. This is my first “bruncherie” and it’s been my fav since… many years. I can’t really remember how many. If I remember right, I first tried this with my friend, Roxana. Here, I fell in love with poached eggs and this is my no. 1 recommendation. Of course, it’s not the only thing on the menu, but, as I promised at the beginning of this article, I want to tell you why and what I come back to these places over and over again. As the name says, it’s a French-themed restaurant so you can find croissants, coffee and all sort of goodies. But don’t forget about the poached eggs :))) Keep in mind, though, it’s very crowded, and I don’t know them taking reservations. I usually stay and wait for a table.

Aici este putină istorie. Asta este prima mea “brunch-erie” și este preferata mea… de multi ani. Nu-mi mai amintesc exact câți. Dacă țin bine minte, am încercat locul ăsta prima dată cu prietena mea, Roxana. Aici m-am îndrăgostit de ouăle poșate și asta și este recomandarea mea numarul 1. Desigur, nu este singurul lucru pe care îl poți comanda dar, după cum am promis la începutul articolului, vreau să-ți spun de ce și pentru ce revin mereu în aceste locuri. Așa cum ți-ai putut da seama după nume, este un restaurant de inspirație franțuzească așa că poți găsi croasante, cafea și tot felul de bunătăți. Dar nu uita de ouăle poșate 😊)) Ia aminte, în schimb, căci este foarte aglomerat și nu știu să primească rezervări. De obicei aștept până se eliberează o masă.

Social 1 is, actually, the first place I ate Shakshuka (although it had a different name here) but they stopped making it. You must wonder why I’m still talking about this, then. Oh, well, because of their amazing “splurge” all-day-breakfast course. That’s, of course, sunny side up EGGS with french fries. Can I hear “Halelluia”? I realized that I don’t have a photo and I really wanted to include this place in my top but I hope you’ll take my word for it: it’s a whole pan full of french fries and two eggs + some veggies. I’m telling you, it’s a to-die-for brunch. (I will come back with photos though, anyway) The atmosphere is cosy. I think this is my fav place to brunch with my group of galz because they also take reservations (no stress with the table), it’s comfy, and we all like their brunch menu.

Social 1 este, de fapt, primul loc în caream mâncat de shakshuka (deși avea alt nume aici) dar nu o mai fac. Poate te întrebi de ce, totuși, vreau să vorbesc despre locul ăsta. Păi, datorită minunatului “dezmăț” pe care îl poți comanda toată ziua. Este, desigur, cu OUĂ ochiuri și cartofi prăjiți. Aproape că aud cântând “Aleluia!”. Realizez abia acum că nu am poză cu dezmățul și chiar voiam să-l includ în top dar sper că mă crezi pe cuvânt: o tigaie plină cu cartofi prăjiți, două ouă și ceva luegume. Îți spun, este mortal! (o să revin totuși și cu poze). Atmosfera este relaxata. Cred că este locul meu preferat pentru brunch-ul cu gașca mea de prietene pentru că primesc și rezervări (fără stresul că nu găsim o masă liberă), este confortabil și meniul este pe placul fiecăreia.
